"The Son": Jesus Christ
The
Son
of God, Jesus Christ, is another part of the Trinity. After Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden man started making offerings to God as a form of cleansing themselves of their sins. In the
Old Testament
those offerings were burnt offerings of animals. It is in the Old Testament that the prophecy of the birth of Jesus or the “Anointed One” aka "The Son" is told. In Daniel 9: 20-27 the NIV says,
(20) I went on praying and confessing my sin and the sin of my people, pleading with the LORD my God for Jerusalem, his holy mountain. (21) As I was praying, Gabriel, whom I had seen in the earlier vision, came swiftly to me at the time of the evening sacrifice. (22) He explained to me, “Daniel, I have come here to give you insight and understanding. (23) The moment you began praying, a command was given. And now I am here to tell you what it was, for you are very precious to God. Listen carefully so that you can understand the meaning of your vision.
(24) “A period of seventy sets of seven has been decreed for your people and your holy city to finish their rebellion, to put an end to their sin, to atone for their guilt, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to confirm the prophetic vision, and to anoint the Most Holy Place. (25) Now listen and understand! Seven sets of seven plus sixty-two sets of seven will pass from the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem until a ruler—the Anointed One—comes. Jerusalem will be rebuilt with streets and strong defenses, despite the perilous times.
(26) “After this period of sixty-two sets of seven, the Anointed One will be killed, appearing to have accomplished nothing, and a ruler will arise whose armies will destroy the city and the Temple. The end will come with a flood, and war and its miseries are decreed from that time to the very end. (27) The ruler will make a treaty with the people for a period of one set of seven, but after half this time, he will put an end to the sacrifices and offerings. And as a climax to all his terrible deeds, he will set up a sacrilegious object that causes desecration, until the fate decreed for this defiler is finally poured out on him.”
This prophecy foretold of the coming of Jesus who would come to Earth, be a great religious leader, and ultimately become the living sacrifice that would absolve all men of their sins if they choose to accept that he is the son of God. In John 3:16 it says, For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. Jesus Christ left the comfort of Heaven to come to Earth to die for our sins. Even more amazing than that is the fact that he did it WILLINGLY. While on Earth Jesus performed miracles, preached, and lived the only pure existence ever. All people, everyone, including you have sin in your life. In Romans 3: 22-24 it says, (22)This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, (23)for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (24)and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Thankfully for us we can get to Heaven, because of God’s grace and mercy, through the sacrafice that Jesus made by dying on the cross. Nobody deserves to go to Heaven, and anyone who ends up in Hell will not be able to say “I don’t deserve to be here” because the truth is we ALL deserve to be there. The people who ask for God’s mercy will be spared. All you have to do is repent (turn away from) your sins, ask Jesus to be your Lord and Savior, and believe that he is the Son of God and that he died for our sins. Taking these simple steps will put you on a path that ends in eternal life with God in Heaven. Believing in Jesus Christ is the only way to get to Heaven. It says in John 14:6- (6) Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. This is why the Trinity confuses many people. They wonder how God can be three people. It is human to try to put things into a context we can understand. So when we hear the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost our natural instinct is to assume three separate “people”. That is where the trouble starts. God is not a person, the Holy Spirit is not a person, of course, Jesus Christ was a man. He is the only one of the Triune to take a human form. The Holy Spirit is just that a spirit that lives within the hearts of all who believe to help act as a spiritual and moral compass for our life. The belief in the Trinity is what sets Christianity apart from most other religions. Again it is a matter of faith. If you believe in God and the Bible then you, by association, accept the Trinity. That is what faith is all about. You can’t pick and choose the parts of the Bible you want to believe. Faith means believing it all or not believing any of it. As for me I believe in the Trinity. As this page grows we will be looking at some of the things that Jesus accomplished while here on Earth. Even though "The Son" is only one part of the Trinity, I think it is easiest part to explain. Even people who have trouble with God as a Trinity can understand what a tremendous impact Jesus had on people. "The Son" of God two words that say it all. I feel this page is going to be an ongoing work in progress! This is a really exciting prospect to see how God leads me in the direction of this page. Grab hold and hang on! Because I don’t think you will want to miss it!
